“Oskara” means bringing together Kukai Dantza and Marcos Morau / La Veronal. It is the union between two choreographic universes and two perspectives of dancing that navigate between the most popular roots and the most avant-garde expression.
“Oskara” is an installation work that reviews some aspects of Basque culture, myths, from their origins to the present time, describing a plastic and emotional path of symbols and iconography with an ambiguous and disconcerting force which, in the most absolute way, contains within it the history of human experience.
The project “Oskara” is consumed in a scenic show, in a format that combines cinema and dance and in a documentary directed by Iñaki Alforja and Pablo Iraburu.
Oskara Plazara is a work of film and dance that proposes a route around passages of the Basque culture: myths, traditions, symbols, from its origin to the contemporary time.
In Oskara Plazara, dancers from Kukai Dantza are integrated in the documentary “Oskara”, filmed by Pablo Iraburu and Iñaki Alforja, which records the creative process of the homonymous dance work created by Kukai Dantza and Marcos Morau in 2016.
“Oskara” is a documentary film. The story arises from the meeting between Marcos Morau, an innovative choreographer from Valencia, and Kukai Dantza, a group of traditional dancers from the Basque Country. Together they create an amazingly beautiful show. The creative process and the final result allow us to talk about a main issue: Who am I? What is my identity? Through dance we address issues that are key in Europe today: tradition and freedom, land and language, creation and conventions, history and future.
We strongly believe in the codirection as a tool of creation especially productive. During our production process we have discovered that Oskara’s creation process gave us the opportunity to address issues that are interesting to us and which we believe are key to the historical moment in which not only our region but also Europe as a whole is found. What is the relationship between tradition, culture and personal identity? Oskara allowed us to talk about this issue in a way that interests us: through creation and beauty.
We believe that this documentary is necessary. Because it serves to provide positive elements that help the viewers to obtain their own answer to the questions we do. It is necessary to take care of our tradition. It is important to do it from our freedom.
