In 1957, Jorge Oteiza received the greatest award that a sculpture can receive at the Sao Paolo Biennial, and there and then decided to withdraw to the Basque Country to claim aesthetic change. He found shelter in poetry, although his character led him to give opinions, talk, discuss and write about culture, education and life’s situations.
That is the Jorge Oteiza described in this show. It is not an adaptation of his biography, but speaks of the lesser known Oteiza, about Oteiza the poet, Oteiza’s words.
“Poetry for me is the way of regaining lost time in life. It’s the way of creating a shop window or refuge to enable us to clearly see that the fate of the being is language.” Jorge Oteiza
