JON MAYA SEIN (Errenteria, 1977)
Jon Maya Sein (1977, Errenteria-Basque Country) is a dancer and choreographer, and a major expert on Basque traditional dance. He has managed to create a unique style based on traditional dance from his country that is original, recognisable on the international scene and which in terms of contemporary dance and modern-day performance techniques combines a type of deep-rooted contemporary dance with contemporary ancestral dance.
One of Jon Maya’s main characteristics is his ability to combine and bring together different artists and artistic disciplines. There has been a great deal of collaboration with choreographers, stage managers and musicians, etc., such as: Cesc Gelabert, Israel Galván, Damián Muñoz and Virginia García, Mireia Gabilondo, Jone San Martín (Forsythe Ballet), Carlos Núñez, and the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, etc.
He also puts together and runs projects that help to raise awareness about dance. He is in charge of the programme co-organised by Kukai Danza and the town council of Errenteria, and takes part as artistic advisor on the BALLET T programme run by Malandaine Ballet Biarritz and the Victoria Eugenia Theatre in San Sebastián.
